I have the honor of designing a cigarette ad campaign for 1957 - the very year that US Surgeon General, Leroy Burney, published his first official report on tobacco saying, “It is clear that there is an increasing and consistent body of evidence that excessive cigarette smoking is one of the causative factors in lung cancer.”
In 1964 he got to tell us that a man who smokes is 1000% more likely to die of lung cancer than one who doesn’t. That was the year Nat King Cole was diagnosed with lung cancer, he died quickly thereafter, in February, 1965.
I wonder if scientists feel like vandals when they publish something like that.
