Head Over Heels was the brain child of the guy who wrote Avenue Q. I don’t know how much of the current script Mr. Whitty would stand by in the “adaptation” that is available to schools. But even if only Mr. Whitty’s idea remains - a domestic drama inspired by the 16th century adventure/romance Arcadia propelled by the music of the Go-Gos - that’s enough for me to assume it is worth all of my effort and our attention.

Let us just assume that all of Jeff Whitty’s ideas are worth a try, because Avenue Q fixed a lot of us. My most cynical and sincere sibling (yes, in my head those are and are not opposites, and exist for real for real in one person…I think many theater lovers are cynical/sinceres…) retold the plot of Avenue Q with the earnesty of someone who rarely felt seen or understood.
