In the last essay I said that the answer to What is this show for? was that we all need to be walked through the rise and fall of western capitalism. There was another, bigger, ‘What for’ happening in this production. The acting. The shapeshifting acting. That was what the woman beside me was reacting to when she said, “This is incredible.” I think that the person in the lobby who said, “Thank goodness there is still great theater” meant “Thank goodness there exists a showcase for great acting.”

The story clearly kept us all interested for 3 and half hours. A discussion has begun in my head and in my household because of the content of that play. I loved the writing so much that I bought the script, read it immediately and will read it again before the week is done.

But the experience of watching 3 actors embody that many people and perspectives! And 3 actors know us all so well that they could thrill us and make us laugh over and over again! That was the clear What for.
