this is a rushed introduction to a big, important topic.

mm, hmmm. I just wrote several essays about everyone’s least favorite giant school problem. I did not start any of those with, ‘This is a BIG deal!”

Inspired by last week’s middle school production of Newsies, I am going to throw down some bullet points using the maximalist language about a topic that I have deemed The BIGGEST DEAL facing schools today….sound amplification, i.e. mics.

(I’m not actually being sarcastic. I do think sound in performance is the biggest deal ever, and all day, every day, schools are putting on our most important performances.)

In the future, I will write about this more eloquently. In the meantime, unfiltered bullet points:

  • “Some older buildings were designed with acoustics in mind, but not all of them were. Some older auditoriums or theaters have terrible acoustics.” - from a stage manager turned pastor

  • “Most houses of worship were designed to be full. You can have great sound in a place with a full hous…
