My 9 year old has noted (angrily) that the vast majority of plays are written for adult audiences. He is tired of not understanding what is going on. And exasperated by watching adults deal with adult problems on stage - we full-size humans are so self-obsessed!
Just like young adult and graphic novels are a big chunk of publishing house revenue - boy do kids’ musicals sell tickets!
I don’t shell out for Aladdin tickets for this half-size … and I do traumatize him on occasion by watching an Oliver Twist that pulls no punches (wow. I did read the book … but Oliver! had me thinking that the young protagonist always clicks his heels as he is walking down the country road starving … not so.)
