I was about to call One Human Shows affordable to stage. But then I remembered the one person show that was a life changer. Pricey.
Looking at it 20 years later I see that you can achieve that wall of wonders with access to a very good stock, some sturdy shelves and well-aimed lighting. I think all of that furniture really was specifically chosen and museum-quality. But, now that I have worked in the theaters that staged the original runs of this show … I am sure that a hefty percentage of that furniture is faking it.
Even if I went to see it today for the first time, though, it would strike me with awe - I am sure. Not the quantity, arrangement or lighting of the beautiful things. This show found and re-created a real world perfectly, beautifully. It was a one-human symphony.
