My generation has a wow Our Town. The 2008ish production directed by David Cromer in various cities.
It doesn’t look special. If you believe the reviewers for the Times or the New Yorker, most of the performances were just okay. Maybe there were a few great ones, but not historic awesome from anyone.
You did get to see all of the performances up very close. These photos are from the Barrow Street theater in New York City. There are 150 seats. The front row has a narrow aisle behind it that the actors used as a street. There were only 2 or 3 rows beyond that. The choir sings on a balcony. On the stage, though, no ladders are used. The actors never get much higher than the audience members in the back row.
