Poland teaches us about Pretty Protests

The most recent photo essay to be assigned that tag on Magnum documents a protest in Warsaw after a mass die-off in the Orda/Oder river. The protest is a funeral march. in Poland. Of course there is a tuba.




Some places do very poignant protests…with elegant signage!






This is that beautiful kind of hopeful protest. What a beautiful blue! so beautifully painted. The rivers that are not dead, whose fish still swim. There are so many! I like the uniformity and equality inherent in clear graphic design. I wonder if the black ribbons symbolize peril.
That blue and the three wavy lines are the dominant visual of this event. A funeral march that is about protecting the living. I like it.
Only a smattering of dead fish.
