Who takes carriage rides through Central Park?
There is only one photo of someone in a horse carriage in the magnum Manhattan photos:
It took me three looks to realize that this cab is parked and he is likely a napping driver. Even a vest that matches the upholstery did not quite cue me into this person as working not leisure-ing. That’s because some cities have folks that dress like it is their job to match the festivities on all days. I think this man and Morris match the zing of their city…even when they are napping.
So, this is my Morris Applebaum portrait. I think he captures that level of live-it-up in your everyday attire and attitude that the protagonist of Checking Out does. There is swagger in hitting the snooze button in Central Park.
