What shows will we see this season that will be that theater company’s last?

“My theater will close in 5 years if something doesn’t change.”

“2 theaters closed last year in my city.”

“The city gave me 3 years to get the theater to a self-sustaining place.”

“This feels hopeless…and thankless…but mostly hopeless.”

the best quotes from theater-heads are the very specific ones that explain what they think are their main challenges and what they are specifically doing to survive, hopefully thrive.

Last year a theater that was founded by Bob Brustein, the founder of Yale Repertory Theater and American Repertory Theater (the 2 biggest deals in American theater for 5 decades and counting) closed forever.

Without warning. The last show of 2023/2024 closed and then the next week the board announced that they were closing forever.

Looking back, though, I realize I was warned. The wigs. The wigs told me this had to end soon.
