In the 1970’s, most homes were set up as if nothing was private. Hence “bedspreads”. It has been a while since I have entered a bedroom with a blanket/carpet/tablecloth hybrid covering. Both of my grandmothers made theirs to fit their beds exactly - a rectangle exactly the size of the mattress and fitted sides. It turned the bed into a geometric solid, a semi-soft bench, table and shelf.
That orange blanket that’s not tucked in back there is one of those chenille bedspreads. Chenille, as in caterpillar in French.
