“You know what would be nice? A bourbon night.” (pause while the speaker rethinks the messiness of a night at the theater that begins with hard alcohol.) “or a wine night. Yes. A wine night. You know some tastings and then a free glass.”
A bourbon night does not seem so extreme when you consider the location of the caller - Kentucky. That suggestion was made to me when I called local businesses, fairly randomly, to ask them if they would go see a theater show.
“All the time. I already saw Our Town last weekend and I might go again this weekend with some friends. Very touching. Serious play. We are used to high production value musicals around here. But, it is okay and welcome to have a serious play without music every now and again. Nostalgic. I recommend it to everyone that comes into the store. We get a lot of tourists.”
No matter how you stage Our Town … it is a very moving play (for most folks) … and (for most folks)…
