Her real name is Sister James! and Sister Aloysius! John Patrick Shanley did not change the names of the nuns from his grade school that he cast in Doubt! Sister James is the same one he credits for his life as a writer; and Sister Aloysius banned him from the lunchroom!

John Patrick Shanley said that he didn’t bother to change their names because they weren’t alive to tell him otherwise. This is a show about courtroom culture…maybe the nuns would sue him if they were alive. Do nuns sue?
