what does cheesy mean?
in reference to pop songs, Our Town and congealed fermented milk
“If you are going to call something cheesy, you have to be more specific.” (said angrily)
Laying on a popular ingredient thickly to quickly get the desired result.
I think that’s what everyone means when they mean cheesy. Salt + fat = Satisfied in 2 minutes or less. I just ate a piece of pizza. The goal was not to feel hungry like I was 5 minutes ago. Achieved.
The same applies to schmaltz; different kind of salt + fat = still full and happy.
No one says that much any more, maybe because we don’t keep (open) mugs of congealed animal fat in the fridge that much any more.
I don’t think “cheesy” is non-specific. When I say cheesy, I am invoking …cheese.
