You Are So Beautiful is a Mother's Day Song

“You Are So Beauitful” as sung to a mom is not creepy if you listen to the lyrics. And the music.
In fact, I think it is most creepy when sung to a love interest. If my husband sang that song to me, I would wonder if he got the news that I’m dying before I did. It’s a little too slow for it to be about someone you plan on hanging out with tomorrow and every day after that.
I don’t think it is about a mom dying, either. Change three verb tenses, and it becomes an appreciation of mothering in the close and far phases:
You are so beautiful to me.
You are so beautiful to me.
Can’t you see? You’re everything I hope[d] for. You’re everything I need[ed].
Such joy and happiness you bring. Such joy and happiness you bring. Like a dream. You’re I hope[d] for. You’re everything I need[ed].
You are so beautiful to me.
Mom is enough and the most beautiful dream when you are young. And she is still all of that later. But she is no longer everything; and she is no longer all you need.
