That’s how much tickets are for The Enemy of the Public at the Circle in the Square Theater on Broadway.
I am in the business of expanding the reach of professional theater by increasing access to school communities. In my extensive outreach experience, I have found that $12 is a big ask for that crowd, regardless of bank account status. Uh…getting folks to go to theater requires giving up a solid chunk of a Saturday, so free is still a big ask. None of that is income dependent.
Going to Broadway shows might be wonderful, but it’s not for the folks I am talking to. The PR firms and marketing departments fill those seats. Free and discount tickets are very rare for Broadway shows, so I can’t offer the kind of discounts that would make it a low-risk event.
Even the folks working on a popular show have extremely limited comp tickets. A friend of mine had a big part in the original production of The Book of Mormon. I never saw it, he never asked. When that actor missed a major commitment …
